Broadband Internet Phone Service – Effective Connectivity

Phone services over the Internet is not just a fad these days, but a way of life. The Internet has changed the way people communicate; it has drastically changed the way people communicate with each other. First there was instant messenger services like MSN and Yahoo, then came voice services allowing users to talk to each other PC to PC; after these came services like Skype and Easycall which allow the users to make calls from their PCs to regular phone lines. After that came broadband Internet phone services, which to a large extend work pretty much the same way as other user level services like Skype, but offer faster and better services. Broadband Internet phone service transmits phone calls over the Internet instead of regular phone networks. The broadband Internet phone service uses a technology called VoIP or Voice Over Internet Protocol that changes the voices into digital packets. These digital packets are sent to a server in the destination through the Internet, where it is re-converted back into the analog form before being sent to a regular phone network.

The popularity of broadband Internet phone is largely due to the fact that people can use it just as easily and without any effort as they would use a regular phone. Once they are set up, the broadband Internet phone works just like your regular phone. You dial-up someone by punching the numbers and you answer the phone by picking it up when it rings.

Of course you have to use a computer and software to utilize Internet phone services. You log on to the Internet, connect to the server of the service provider using the software they provide you and place or receive calls from there. There are broadband Internet phone services based on hardware in which you do not have to rely on your computer and go through a lengthy process to make a call.

In these hardware based broadband phone services, the service provider bundles all various added features like in any regular phone services. These features include caller ID, call waiting, voice mail boxes, conference call service and the like.

Another reason for the popularity of broadband Internet phone service, and perhaps the more effective one, is the price. Increasing numbers of people all over the world are using broadband Internet phone services to make long distance phone calls, because long distance calls are very cheap with Internet phone services compared to regular phone service. On top of that, there are broadband Internet phone service providers who also offer free calls generated between the users of the same service provider.

There are a few conditions for using your broadband Internet phone effectively. You cannot use broadband connections with a dial-up Internet connection. You need a high-speed Internet connection. There is the issue of viruses too. Because it is the Internet, a virus can travel to your phone too. And, no matter what quality enhancements the Internet phone service has acquired over time, it still cannot match the clarity and sound quality of the regular phone lines.
